STEAM RAILWAY SR512 - ON SALE NOW

Exclusively lined up for Steam Railway, the F&WHR’s four surviving George England 0-4-0STTs – including newly restored Welsh Pony – are our cover stars for this edition. We explore the contribution Welsh Pony, Prince and Palmerston made to the North Wales line’s spectacular ‘Bygones Weekend’ in October, an event few thought possible earlier this year.

The Mid-Hants Railway also hosted an incredible gala in October, with ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas and ex-West Somerset ‘7F’ No. 53808 starring alongside the ‘Watercress Line’s’ home fleet for an event which recalled the halcyon days of the Somerset & Dorset. We explore how and why the MHR pulled off this event under Covid-19 restrictions.

Elsewhere, we celebrate the 175th anniversary of Stockton & Darlington veteran Derwent, chat to A1 Trust designer and engineer David Elliott about the challenges of building a new ‘P2’, pay tribute to legendary HMRI inspector Major John Poyntz, and sit down with both the Office of Rail & Road and the Heritage Railway Association to discuss safety.

As always, we bring you the latest news, comment and analysis from the world of preservation, including:

· EXCLUSIVE: Main line plan for Bulleid Wadebridge

· Ivatt ‘Atlantics’ destined for Doncaster

· Railways close for second lockdown

· Tanfield completes Horden restoration

· Government grants £12.3 million to railways

There’s all this and more – including our regular Down Main, industrial and narrow gauge news columns – in the latest edition of Steam Railway. On sale now.
