The new owner of ‘Castle’ No. 7027 Thornbury Castle, Jon Jones-Pratt, has stated his intent to return the Collett-designed locomotive to steam in six years.
The statement comes shortly after Mr Jones-Pratt, who also owns GWR ‘Hall’ No. 4936 Kinlet Hall, acquired the locomotive from long-time previous owner Pete Waterman.
Thornbury Castle will depart from its current home at Rowsley at Peak Rail, where it has been since April, to covered accommodation at the former Weston Helicopters works in Weston-super-Mare where its restoration will commence.
It is intended to restore No. 7027 to main line standards, and once Thornbury Castle has been returned to steam, the engine is expected to be based at the West Somerset Railway, stationed at Tyseley for main line operations.
